Analysis
The Brackett brothers' compiled Sudbury origin sits inside Gurdon's own patronage geography
John's tightest documented Braintree associates, brothers Richard and Peter Brackett, are read by modern compiled genealogy as sons of a Sudbury, Suffolk family, Richard baptised at St Gregory, Sudbury, 16 September 1610 - Sudbury being Brampton Gurdon of Assington's own parliamentary borough (Gurdon's family held Assington, four miles away, from 1556; his father sat for Sudbury in 1571; Gurdon himself was elected its MP in January 1621) and the same Gurdon who brokered the 1627 wardship letter carrying the senior West Barsham Gurneys into Winthrop's Court of Wards circle. If the compiled Sudbury reading holds, John's closest colonial associates were themselves raised inside Gurdon's own patronage geography. This is a network suggestion at compiled level, not a documented tie: the 1907 Brackett Genealogy found no Sudbury connection at all, offering only a distinct, self-described 'meager' Norfolk (Wreningham) scrap instead, and neither the Sudbury baptism nor the Wreningham scrap has been checked against a parish-register image. It connects John to nothing by blood or record - only that his own documented associates sit, on the modern compiled reading, inside the same East Anglian puritan-gentry patronage web already documented for the senior branch.
