Torrey's John3 entries: a plausible but unconfirmed grandson reading
Torrey's compendium independently carries the Providence couple ("John3 ... & Sarah (Thornton)[Fields] ... b 1714; Providence") alongside a second John3 married to Elizabeth Green at Weymouth in 1689 and a Samuel3 - probably, though not conclusively, John Gurney Jr.'s Mendon-born son (an identification tested, not asserted, in the family Mendon-descendants unit) - married in 1693. If that Samuel3 identification holds, the generational placement is consistent with, but does not prove, the Providence John being a grandson of John Gurney-1 through John Jr.'s Mendon household, while the separate Weymouth John3 more plausibly belongs to Richard G12's own Weymouth line. Torrey's entry states no parentage for either John3, and his "Thornton" reading is most plausibly a slip for Josiah Thornton, the 1714 inventory's co-appraiser, not a prior husband's surname.
