Analysis: an all-movable estate with no valued real estate
The 1663 appraisal is essentially all personalty because John held no valued real estate at death: his principal Braintree farm was the leased Tyng tenancy he never owned, the one freehold he had held outright (the Monatiquot house and orchard) he had sold to Richard Thayer in February 1661/2, and his sole land entry — the Quinapaug interest — was an unpriced frontier share the appraisers 'know not.' The £55 14s 6d therefore measures his movable estate alone.
