Negative: no vital or church record fixes John's birth, marriage, death, or burial
No New England vital or church record fixes John Gurney's own birth, first marriage (to Mary), death, or burial: within the surviving town vital records, church-admission records, and freeman lists naming John Gurney Sr. (c. 1636-1663), none preserves a baptism, marriage, death, or burial entry for him, and he appears on no church-admission or freeman roll — a silence the full run of the printed Massachusetts Bay colony records confirms at first hand, naming him across all five volumes only twice (the 1641 fine remission and the 1644 bill) and never as an admitted freeman, and that Anderson's full-dress directory review independently reflects. His birth survives only as an inference from the 1653 deposition age and his death only as the terminus his March 1663 inventory implies. Scope limits: the one Braintree line matching his traditional 1661 remarriage and his second wife's 1661 death is printed under 'John Cheny'/'Grizell Kidbee' in the 1886 edition and is a distinct reading/identity question, counted here as neither a surviving nor an absent Gurney vital record; and absence in the reviewed set is not proof no such entry ever existed.
